Hervey Bay is located on the Fraser Coast between Brisbane and Bundaberg. It is a short 3.5-hour drive from Brisbane and 1 hour 30 minutes from Bundaberg. Although it is a short car drive some do prefer to take the quick 1-hour flight from Brisbane to get here. Many commutes from the area into the major cities, as it's cheaper to live in Hervey Bay and you get all the splendours of a big town. The airport only being 10 minutes out of town and Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin Airlines all use the airport as a port of call. Hervey Bay By Car The majority of visitors to the Fraser Coast travel here by car which some find a lot easier. The Bruce Highway runs by this region making it easily accessible by most private vehicles. If you are travelling from the South you can also use Brisbane Road turn off to Tin Can Bay/Rainbow Beach as you enter Gympie and turn off to the right, just before the Liberty fuel station. This road is also single lane but it has less traffic than the main highway speeds are still set at 100km for most areas. This road has fewer overtaking lanes, more bends and very few fuel or toilet stops but it offers views of the small towns along the coastline be sure you have enough fuel to cover this 80/90km detour. As you drive past Gympie the Bruce Highway is somewhat busy and less updated. The roads are also mostly single lanes with overtaking areas every few kilometres the speeds are set at 100km or 60km in built-up areas or towns. Coach Trip To Hervey Bay Greyhound Pioneer and Premier Motor Services are the way to travel if you don’t have a car or just don’t feel like driving. Greyhound operates daily services from Brisbane via the Sunshine Coast so if you need to get somewhere and want to do it in comfort they are the way to go. Local coaches operate several services each day from Stockland Hervey Bay through Maryborough, Hervey Bay and Childers, so sit back and relax and let someone else do the driving for you while you enjoy the air-conditioned comfort of the coaches on offer. Flights Into Hervey Bay Qantas operates direct daily flights from Brisbane to the Fraser Coast while Jetstar has daily flights to and from Sydney. Train Fare To Hervey Bay Queensland Rail operates regular services from Brisbane, Rockhampton and Cairns into Maryborough West. Booking is simple, easy and direct. Transfers to The Bay can be included via the Train link bus service, which connects with every train. Is There A Train From Brisbane To Hervey Bay? There is no direct train to Hervey Bay using the train link as there are no longer any train stations in Hervey Bay. You can, however, catch the tilt train as far as Maryborough West and from there, you hop on the bus that is waiting to continue onto Hervey Bay which is a short 30-minute trip. The bus will drop you at Stockland Hervey Bay. Once you board the bus they take care of all your luggage and transfer it onto the train for you unless you choose to carry your own bags. There are only a few stops on the morning bus to catch the train from Stocklands back to Maryborough but rest assured the bus keeps in communication with the train and does not leave until you have arrived. So no chance of missing your train. The Tilt Train is fully wheelchair accessible and has a lowering platform creating a ramp to fill the gap between the train and the platform.
